Mitsu Sundvall

Mitsu speaks of her experiences as a Japanese American child in a Japanese internment camp and what it was like to enter a public school in Berkeley, California after the war. Another child was instructed to befriend Mitsu to help her feel more comfortable in school. She did, and she and Mitsu became friends for life. Mitsu's friend of over 60 years died last week and this reading is for her.

    Growing up in Daly City, I later learned Tanforan in S San Francisco was an internment camp, as was a part of Angel Island in the middle of Sna Francisco bay - what times, but always glad to hear how others were able to live through and go forward from that treatment -
